The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has officially greenlit the sports program for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games (LA28), marking a significant milestone for archery. For the frist time, the Games will feature a mixed team event in compound archery, signaling a commitment to innovation and gender equality within the Olympic movement.

The inclusion of compound archery in LA28 represents a modern evolution of the sport, appealing to a broader audience and showcasing the technical skill involved.

Traditionally, the recurve bow has been the standard in Olympic archery. Though, the compound bow, known for its enhanced accuracy and mechanical assistance, has gained immense popularity worldwide. According to World Archery, millions of archers globally practise with the compound bow, making its inclusion a logical step towards reflecting the sport’s current landscape.
