Colorectal Cancer Screening: Brest Initiative – Dépistage Finistère

Every year, the month of March marks the return of spring. Since 2009, it has also symbolized an event: Blue Mars. Like Pink October, the next 30 days will be dedicated to the prevention and screening of colorectal cancer. For this reason, the CPAM (primary health insurance funds) organized in Brest, this Monday March 2, 2026, a meeting of the Finistère screening collective, bringing together key health players in the region: Finistère Cancer League, CRCDC (regional cancer screening coordination center), ARS (Regional Health Agency), and MSA (Agricultural Social Mutual). The objective? Increase screening for colorectal cancer among 50-74 year olds.

“A test is something simple”

Between 2023 and 2024, a little less than a third of the Finistère residents concerned were tested. A result well below the recommended threshold of 65%, considered necessary to ensure optimal protection of the population. “Thanks to increased mobilization, we managed to increase this rate to 40% in 2025,” says Yvon Foll, secretary general of the Finistère office of the League Against Cancer. “A test is simple,” recalls Maud Moreigne, responsible for risk management at CPAM. Available free of charge, the kits are accessible (in pharmacies in particular) and effective. When detected early, this cancer is cured in nine out of ten cases.
