Colombian Senate 2026: Election Forecast & New Composition

The legislative election in Colombia left Gustavo Petro’s ruling Historical Pact party as the main political force with 25 seats, far surpassing its 2022 result and confirming the weight of Petrism in the Senate.

The Democratic Center, driven by the leadership of former President Álvaro Uribe Vélez and a closed list, grew from 13 to 17 seats, although below its expectations.

Between both poles, a polarized Senate is emerging, while the traditional parties—Liberal Party, Conservative Party and La U—, with relevant benches, will once again be decisive in tilting the majorities and defining the coalitions of the next Government.

Thus, the balance of the Colombian Congress will depend on both the alliances and the internal divisions of the parties.
