The Royan volleyball club is facing a challenging period, grappling with both poor performance on the court and significant financial difficulties. After a season that saw the team finish last in their championship with a mere single victory against seventeen defeats, the club is now working to rebuild and secure its future.

Addressing the Disappointment: Honesty and Accountability

In a candid assessment of the season, the club president acknowledged the team’s shortcomings, emphasizing the need for collective improvement. While expressing disappointment, the president is already focused on preparations for the next season. The president stated:

We were bad collectively.

This direct approach reflects a commitment to transparency and a refusal to make excuses for the team’s performance.

Unexpected Struggles: Unraveling the Season’s Failures

Despite increased training and a positive team atmosphere, the reasons behind the team’s poor performance remain unclear. The president noted the unexpected nature of the season’s struggles, stating that such downturns can affect any club, fostering humility and a renewed determination to persevere.

Despite the team’s struggles, the club has seen strong support from the local community. Home games consistently drew over 800 spectators, demonstrating a passionate fan base. Moreover,the club has successfully increased private partnerships by €100,000 and welcomed many new young players after the Olympic Games,highlighting its commitment to youth growth and community engagement. These achievements underscore the club’s positive impact beyond the first team’s performance.

Financial Realities: Addressing the Deficit

The club is currently facing a €50,000 deficit, mirroring a reduction in subsidies from the departmental council.
