After months and months of negotiations, the more than three million civil servants who were waiting for their salary increase have seen how the UGT and CSIF unions have signed an agreement with the Government to finalize a salary increase of 11.4% for public workers in the period 2025-2028.
The signed agreement is multi-year and affects 2025, 2026, 2027 and 2028so the increases referring to the first year, to the 2025 that is about to end, they will arrive retroactively, starting January 1, 2025. But when will those amounts arrive?
According to Europa Pressthe payment of these amounts, 2.5%, They will arrive on the payroll for the month of December. Thus, within a few weeks the officials will receive a strong income in their accounts, since the amounts pending from January to November will be added to the monthly payment resulting from applying that 2.5% increase.
However, the agency warns, payment could be delayed in the event that the responsible Administration could not make the payment for any reason. In that case, it would be done on the first payroll that was possible.
The increase is made on the official’s salary as of December 31, 2024 and is applied in a total of 14 monthly installmentsthe 12 ordinary and the two extraordinary payments of public workers.
The news agency gives as an example an official who has a base salary of 861.46 euros gross per month, two three-year terms (57.18 euros), a destination supplement of 400 euros and a specific supplement of 500 euros. In this case, after the increase applied to the 14 payments, the increase would be 45.45 euros, that is, 636.60 euros.
969 euros on average
Taking as reference the data from the Active Population Survey of the National Institute of Statistics (INE), in 2024 the average salary of a salaried public worker was 38,787 euros gross per year (can be consulted at this link). Although the INE calculates the figure in 12 payments, we transfer it to 14 payments that give rise to monthly payments of 2,770 euros.
Thus, the impact of the increase on an average Administration salary would be 69.25 euros gross monthly increase, applying that 2.5% to a monthly payment of 2,770 euros. The total increase for 2025 would, therefore, be 969 euros per year.
