Cineclub Magnifica Illusion: Autumn Films & Events at Cinema Perla

The Magnifica Illusion Cineclub returns to animate the Perla cinema in Bologna with an autumn season which, from October to December 2025, will accompany the public on a journey through great classics, timeless cult, documentaries and special projections. As always, programming intertwines the pleasure of cinema to discover, memory and conviviality, with appointments that combine vision to reflection, in -depth analysis of entertainment, cinephilia to the community.

October: between Hitchcock, Woody Allen and the horror night

It starts on Thursday October 2 with a surprise movies – title kept secret until the projection – and an aperitif offered by Camera a Sud. A beginning that is already a declaration of intent: cinema as a surprise, party, meeting.

Il 9 October It will be the turn of Alfred Hitchcock con The shadow of doubt (1943), considered by the director himself one of his most successful works. The subtle tension that crosses the ordinary life of the American Province, threatened by a dark secret, will be introduced by Ivan Cipressi of the Primo Levi University of Bologna.

A week later, October 16thcan be completely changed with the Swedish documentary The most beautiful boy in the world (2021). Kristina Lindström and Kristian Petri’s film tells the story of Björn Andrésen, the young man that Luchino Visconti chose as a beauty icon for Death in Venice. Behind that perfect aura, however, the unsustainable weight of a label that marked a whole life was hidden. To present it will be Emanuela markedin collaboration with the Goethe-Zentrum Bologna and the Ruggiero.

Thursday 23 October The Cineclub will pay homage to the 90 years of Woody Allen with Radio Days (1987), nostalgic comedy that traces the author’s childhood through the memories and music of the American radio of the 1930s. The evening, with free offer entry, will be curated by the staff of Or radio.

And then, of course, Halloween could not be missing: the October 30th The Horror Marathon Night. At 20:00 the public will be able to relive the unique experience of Deep red (1975), masterpiece by Dario Argento, on the occasion of his 50th anniversary and in a restored version in 4K. After a convivial interlude with Free aperitifthe evening will continue with a “Film Horror the Sorrestation“, Which will remain wrapped in mystery until the last.

November: Anniversaries, cult and autumn atmospheres

The following month the November 6th con BARTON FINK – It happened in Hollywood (1991), the film with which the Coen brothers won the golden palm in Cannes. Grotesque, surreal and at the same time fierce satire of the world of cinema, will be introduced by Roberto ChiesiCinema historian and director of the Pier Paolo Pasolini Study Center of the Cineteca di Bologna.

Il November 13th instead it will be up to one of the most anticipated titles of the season: The Life of Chuck (2024) by Mike Flanagan, taken from a story by Stephen King. A surprising film, which tells the life of a man in three acts arranged on the contrary, starting from his death and coming to his childhood. A work that conquered the public at the Toronto International Film Festival, winning the People’s Choice Award, thanks also to a very high level cast with Tom Hiddleston, Mark Hamill and Karen Gillan. Il November 20 Instead, the forty years of a cult that marked the imagination of entire generations will be celebrated: I Goonies (1985). The projection will be a “Quote-a-Long Night“: The public, thanks to the Italian version with subtitles of the memorable jokes, will be able to recite together the most iconic dialogues of the film. A real party of collective memory.

The month will close with the overwhelming rhythm of the musical: the November 27th will be projected Chicago (2002) by Rob Marshall, Oscar for best film and triumph of music, dance and ambition. The evening will be introduced byTweet Charity Association – Sing out of the choir, which will enrich the event with a reflection on the link between cinema and performance.

December: birthdays, literature and Christmas at the cinema

December will bring with it anniversaries and spirit of celebration. The December 4th will be dedicated to 20th birthday of the Bologna Trame librarycelebrated with Cinderella in Paris (Funny Face1957), Stanley Donen‘s musical comedy that combines the refinement of Audrey Hepburn and Fred Astaire’s timeless charm.

L’11 December It will be the turn of Jane Austen, on the 250th anniversary of his birth. On the screen it will arrive Emma. (2020) by Autumn de Wilde, brilliant and colorful version of the famous novel, introduced by Jane Austen Society of Italy.

Finally, Thursday December 18ththe Cineclub will greet the public with the traditional Christmas Mystery Movie Night: panettone, sparkling wine and a surprise Christmas film, to close together in joy and give an appointment to the new year.

A place of cinema and community

The October-December 2025 program of the Cineclub Magnifica Illusion confirms the vocation of Perla cinema as a meeting place, memory and discovery. The projections are almost all in the original language with Italian subtitles and often accompanied by interventions of guests, scholars, cultural and critical associations.

The season is made possible thanks to the work of the organizational committee (Lola Hanau, Nicoletta Maldini, Ivan Cipressi, Alessandro D’Argento) and Volunteers of Perla Cinema and collaborations with Acec Emilia Romagna, Libreria Trame, South Chamber, Tweet Charity and the Jane Austen Society of Italy.
