84 pianists from 20 countries took part in the first stage of this year’s Chopin competition. China was most represented in the competition – 28 pianists, Poland and Japan had 13 representatives each.
In the first stage, participants appeared in alphabetical order according to the first letter of their surname. The letter from which the first stage begins is determined by drawing lots. This year we started with the letter “T”, and Ziye Tao was the first to perform.

During the first stage auditions, the jury of 17 experts awarded individual scores from 1 to 25 to each artist. The points were counted and, based on these results, the jury selected 40 artists who moved on to the next stage of the competition. Importantly, these points will be added to the pianists in the results of the next stages.

The 2025 Chopin Competition will be available to watch both on TVP Kulturaas well as on the channel TVP VOD. He is also planning broadcasts Radio Two and online Polish Radio Chopin.
Live broadcasts from the concert hall, a special competition page available in the application and a music challenge with prizes – these are just some of the activities that will appear on the platform Tiktok in connection with the partnership with the competition.

In turn, Orlen, the patron of the competition, invites you to Music Lover Zones. They will be built in seven cities in Poland: Warsaw, Płock, Gdańsk, Lublin, Szczecin, Wrocław and Białystok. In the capital, the zone will be available from October 18 to 21, and in other cities from October 18 to 20. Admission to the events is free.
Chopin Competition 2025. The path to a global career
International Piano Competition The Fryderyk Chopin Festival is one of the oldest music competitions in the world. It is also one of the few monographic competitions – only works by one composer are performed. It is considered one of the most prestigious — winning or receiving one of the awards in the Chopin competition opens the way to a world career.
The initiator of the competition was the pianist, teacher and composer prof. Jerzy Żurawlew. The first Chopin competition took place on January 23-30, 1927 in the philharmonic hall in Warsaw provided for this purpose. According to the adopted assumptions, the competition was to be held every five years.
In 2021, in the pandemic edition, the competition was won by Bruce (Xiaoyu) Liu from Canada. They took second place in the Chopin competition from the level Alexander Gadjiev, representing Italy and Slovenia, and Kyohei Sorita from Japan.
