Chiqui Tapia: AFA Retirement Fund Charges Explained

The Jjustice imputed to the president of the Argentine Football Association (AFA), Claudio “Chiqui” Tapiaand at treasurer Pablo Toviggino for the alleged illegal withholding of the entity’s retirement contributions.

The decision was made by prosecutor Claudio Navas Rialwhich formally accused the two leaders of the AFA, within the framework of an investigation by the debt exceeding $19,000 million in retirement contributions.

The case is in the hands of the judge Diego Amaranteforks the first time in which Tapia and his right hand man are charged.

The complaint filed by the General Tax Directorate (DGI) in the first days of December advanced and already has the imputation by Claudio Tapia and Pablo Toviggino.

At that time, the subdivision that responds to the Customs Collection and Control Agency (ARCA) had estimated a fiscal loss of $7,000 million, between tax withholdings and social security taxeswhile currently the amount reported amounted to $19,000 million, only in terms of unpaid retirement contributions.

The case investigates the parent entity of Argentine football for the crimes mentioned in articles 4 and 7 of law 27,430 of the Criminal Tax Regimein which they are classified as violations of the “misappropriation of taxes” and “social security resources”with terms of 30 days to deposit, totally or partially, the evaded money.

If not, the articles mentioned indicate sentences of between two and six years in prison for him “withholding agent”the main person responsible for the withheld money and administrator of the fiscal key, who in this case is Claudio “Chiqui” Tapia.

In addition to the president of AFA and its treasurer, the magnitude of the economic structure of the association generates an expansion of the investigation towards other leaders linked, among which are Cristian Malaspinapresident of Argentinos Juniors, secretary of the entity, and Gustavo Lorenzogeneral director of the board of directors of the accused association.
