At the heart of Beijing, on Tiananmen square on September 3, 2025, the world witnessed a military parade which was not limited to celebrating the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War, but sent a clear and deep message to the whole world. A message and a large slogan displayed by Chinese President Xi Jinping, to declare that humanity is today at a decisive crossroads: peace or confrontation, and that the choice is in the hands of the United States, which must stop enslaving the world, committing injustices and looting its resources, while opposing the countries looking to save their people from poverty and hunger decent life and mutual cohabitation, like the People’s Republic of China.
China, with its expanding economic and military power, does not speak of peace from a point of view of weakness, but within the framework of the principles anchored of its great party and its central core, Xi Jinping, having fully confidence in its capacity to protect its interests and its sovereignty. The force presented in front of the world was a double message: a message for the interior aimed at strengthening the confidence of the people in their army and a message for the outside, in particular for the United States, meaning that China will not give up its interests or will be weakened by any attempt to make it more vulnerable.
This military parade, with the participation of thousands of soldiers, land, maritime and air units, as well as hyper-sounding weapons, intercontinental missiles, laser weapons, and piloted air aircraft and air vehicles was not only a magnificent and breathtaking spectacle, but also a demonstration of the real ability to deterrence in the face of any potential threat. Cybersecurity and digital defense innovations recalled that military power was no longer enough and that information control and digital intelligence were central elements in any future conflict.
In an enlarged international context, the Chinese message takes a clear position: the world is no longer a field of unipolar uniqueness. China and its allies – from Russia and North Korea to certain countries in Latin America such as Venezuela and Brazil, among others – affirm their rejection of attempts at imperialist and unfair hegemony of the West, which are manifested by economic wars and attempts to block projects of development and mutual cooperation between countries, such as the road to secessionist, Chinese provinces like Taiwan, Hong Kong, Uighurs and Tibet. All these efforts aim to weaken China and to distract it by internal issues, but the military parade has shown that China is up to its responsibility and that any confrontation will be expensive.
The fundamental message that China and its allies wish to transmit is clear: we aspire to peace, but not to the detriment of our independence or our interests and the integrity of our territories. We believe in cooperation, reciprocity and peaceful coexistence, and we sincerely invite the world to this with concrete actions. However, those who choose the confrontation will find themselves in the face of a significant force, a force capable of profoundly modifying the balance of the world forces.
In the end, the military parade and the declarations which accompany him do not hide that the People’s Republic of China is a major player in a world which is no longer a single pole of influence. This reality is confirmed by its military, economic and political power, constituting an implicit warning to any party considering an escalation: the choice is clear, peace is the ideal way, while the confrontation will be costly, bloody, even catastrophic for all. It is imperative that the United States and other Western powers see their policies.
