New policy begins on October 1st; Program facilitates residence and employment for foreigners and seeks to attract students and qualified professionals
China’s new visa program starts next Wednesday (1st.out.2025). The measure increases Beijing‘s bet amid geopolitical rivalry with Washington.
Announced in August, the new policy creates the K Visa, aimed at youth foreigners in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). Unlike the United States model, K does not require prior work supply, allowing professionals to get residence and employment more flexibly.
The measure contrasts with the recent decision of the government of Donald Trump, which imposed an actual fee of $ 100,000 for companies that request H-1B work visas from September 21. The expectation is for a significant drop in requests, as part of Washington’s effort to impose more rigid controls on immigration.
According to Reuters, This scenario favors China, while the US hardens rules and expensive processes, Beijing is more receptive to students and qualified professionals. “The US definitely shot it on its own foot in H-1BS, and the moment is excellent for the K of China visa”Michael Feller, strategist chief of Australian consultancy Geopolitical Strategy.
Other countries such as Germany, New Zealand and South Korea are also flexing visa rules to attract skilled labor.
The US program H-1B remains limited to 85,000 annual vacancies (65,000 regular and 20,000 reserved for those who have a postgraduate degree in the US), subject to draw. The new rate should discourage even more first -time candidates and make room for alternatives, such as China’s K Visa.
