China Southern justifies the step with an “optimization of the fleet structure”. In fact, the airline had been struggling with the smaller dreamliners for a long time. In contrast to the newer variants, their Boeing 787-8 have a smaller maximum departure weight, which restricts the range. In the future, she wants to focus more on larger long-distance jets-Airbus A330, A350, Boeing 777-300 ER and the larger 787-9.
Are customers for the Boeing 787?
However, it is open whether customers can be found. Airlines complain about long delivery times at Airbus and Boeing worldwide, but the demand remains manageable at the used market. For some, the bundled number of ten aircraft could be attractive – at the same time, the lack of modernizations and the fixed package solution scare potential buyers.
