Beijing announced on Monday, August 19, that it would extend its anti-subsidy investigation into dairy product imports from the European Union (EU). This move is expected to further strain the already tense business relationship between the two economic powers. According to a statement published online by the Chinese Minister of Commerce, the investigation will be extended by six months, with a new deadline of February 21, 2026, citing the “complexity of the case.”
The initial survey, launched by Beijing in August 2024, targeted specific European dairy products, including cheeses, milk, and cream. This action came shortly after the EU’s decision to impose high customs duties on Chinese electric vehicles. The EU has accused Beijing of distorting competition through massive subsidies to its manufacturers,enabling them to offer products at lower prices.
