As we have reported this morning, the US president, Donald Trump, senior officials of his government and the Republican party, as well as influential political figures, meet today in Arizona to honor Charlie Kirk today, are expected to honor Charlie Kirk.
But the commemorative service, which is carried out in the huge State Farm Stadium in Glendale, on the outskirts of Phoenix, will mean a huge test for security forces, particularly for the secret service, an agency that already operates under great pressure and wear.
And the reason for the meeting – a deadly bullet aimed at silencing a political figure – only underlines the risks.
“Our teams are already in Phoenix and Glendale, working together with state, local and federal partners. Together we are fully committed to ensuring that these solemn events receive the comprehensive protection and support they require,” said William Mack, a special agent in charge of the Phoenix field office.
The commemorative service received a class 1 classification of level 1, the highest, according to a senior official of the National Security Department. The SEAR-1 designation, which had previously been granted to events such as the Super Bowl and the Kentucky derby, allows to mobilize resources throughout the federal government to coordinate security.
“This designation is reserved for events of the utmost national importance and enables the federal government to provide the entire range of security and application resources necessary to support local authorities in the guarantee of a safe and successful event,” said the official.
