CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) — The Charleston County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim who was shot and killed in a shooting Wednesday night.
Luis Garcia-Galvez, 17, of Charleston, died from a gunshot wound in the shooting, according to Coroner Bobbi Jo O’Neal.
Charleston Police Sgt. Chris Stinson says officers were dispatched around 6:45 p.m. Wednesday to a report of a shooting on Ashley Avenue near Race Street.
When they arrived, they found a 17-year-old dead on the scene.
Police say that early information has led them to believe that the people involved in the killing knew each other. They believe this was not a random act of violence.
A heavy police and forensic services presence remained in the area throughout the investigation. Detectives also executed a search warrant at a home on Race Street. As the investigation is active, police say they are presently unable to release any further details.
So far, no arrests have been made. Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 843-720-2422 and ask to speak with the central Detective on duty or submit tips anonymously here.
