mexican Chamber of Deputies Extends Board Term Amidst Political Gridlock

Mexico City. Due to a deadlock between Morena and the PAN regarding the composition of the new board of directors, the Chamber of Deputies has decided to prolong the term of the current board untill September 5, allowing parliamentary groups additional time to reach a consensus.
Consequently, Sergio Gutiérrez Luna, a member of Morena, will remain president of San Lázaro for the next five days. He will receive the first government report from the secretary of the Interior,Rosa Icela Rodríguez,on behalf of President Claudia Sheinbaum,and will be responsible for responding to it on behalf of the Chamber.
During a preparatory session, the Plenary of San Lázaro swiftly approved an agreement proposed by the coordinators of all the parties, ensuring that the current board of directors remains in place, as stipulated in articles 17 and 27 of the Organic Law of the General Congress.
Ricardo Monreal, MORENA coordinator in San Lázaro, stated at a prior press conference that this agreement provides institutionality and governance to the Chamber.
“We are in the processing of the election of the board of directors that by law, it is up to the PAN, and we will achieve it in the next few days,” he said.
José Elías Lixa, coordinator of the PAN deputies, acknowledged the current lack of conditions for a board of directors proposal that garners a two-thirds majority vote from legislators.
He noted that the Constitution allows for continued dialog to reach an agreement. “With absolute good will,” he added that his party’s proposal to lead the Chamber, including Kenya López Rabadán, Germán Martínez, Federico Döring and Margarita Zavala, has been submitted to the Political Coordination Board.
He expressed support for the current board to avoid further conflict, allowing parliamentary groups to continue thier process and resolve the
