Chainsaw Man: Fan-Favorite Characters Return

by Archynetys Entertainment Desk

The following contains spoilers for the Chainsaw Man manga.

Chainsaw Man is starting out 2026 with one of the manga’s most exciting developments in years. In Chainsaw Man Chapter 225, “Barf, Motorcycle, Hell,” Tatsuki Fujimoto gives fans the moment they’ve been waiting for when Denji finally makes his long-awaited journey to Hell.

During his battle with Yoru, Denji realizes that simply devouring the Devils on Earth isn’t enough to do lasting damage to the War Devil. The only way to win would be to travel to Hell to eat Devils who embody concepts that would truly make an impact if they were erased. This return to Hell is doubly amazing because it means the inevitable return of two of Chainsaw Man’s most beloved characters: Power and Nayuta.

Power’s Blood Devil Reincarnation Has Always Been Guaranteed in CSM Part 2

Denji’s return to Hell has been an unexplored plot thread since Denji first promised Power he would find the next Blood Devil at the end of CSM Part 1. While Denji promised Power he would definitely visit Hell to find her reincarnation as part of a contract she made with him, fans could never be sure Fujimoto would actually carry out this plotline until now.

The only time Denji even mentions looking for the Blood Fiend’s reincarnation in all of Part 2 is during a conversation he has with Yoru in Chainsaw Man Chapter 192. In it, Yoru tells Denji that all the Devils of Hell will arrive to greet the Death Devil, to which Denji muses “I’ve got this promise with a friend… I’m lookin for the Blood Devil. She’s a huge jerk… but when we were together, we had fun.”

Still, even he knows the truth: “Even if I find her,” Denji solemnly admits, “I guess we’re already strangers.” This is in reference to the fact that Devils don’t retain their personalities when they reincarnate in Hell, so the Blood Devil won’t technically be the Power Denji once knew. As Power tells Denji when they first make their contract in Chapter 91, “if we meet again, it’ll probably be as enemies.”

The sad truth is that Denji will likely have to fight the new Blood Devil when he does find her. However, Power made him promise that he’d “turn the Bloor Devil into Power again.” If he wants to hold steadfast to that contract, Denji will ultimately have to become friends with the reborn Blood Devil somehow.

Denji’s journey to Hell in Chainsaw Man Chapter 225 may not have been directly inspired by his desire to find the Blood Fiend, but there’s no way he’ll overlook his promise to Power now that he’s already there.

Nayuta’s Return Was Teased By Denji’s Conversation With Yoru Several Chapters Ago

Another key character who could finally return in Chainsaw Man’s Hell Arc is the Control Devil’s reincarnation, Nayuta. Fans have speculated about Nayuta’s death since she was first cut into sushi back in Chainsaw Man Chapter 170, with many theorizing that she may not even have died.

A beheading would kill any regular person, but that’s merely a flesh wound to a powerful Devil like Control. Even if Nayuta was severely weakened, feeding a Devil blood is usually enough to revive them from even the worst mortal injuries.

Whether she’s really dead or not, the Control Devil’s return is pretty much guaranteed during Denji’s trip to Hell. In the same chapter that Denji talks to Yoru about Power, he also mentions his hope that he might see the Control Devil again. While Yoru insists that “she won’t be the one you know anymore,” it’s hard to take that claim seriously. Denji has now known two incarnations of the Control Devil, and grown to love both of them in their own ways.

Most importantly, Nayuta was able to use her Control powers to learn about her own past as Makima, so there’s no reason the next Control Devil couldn’t do the same to recall her past as Nayuta as well.

Chainsaw Man’s current manga arc is the perfect time to bring back beloved characters from Part 1 like Power and the Control Devil, because the anime is set to return soon with the Assassins Arc – an arc in which both Control and Power play crucial roles. Of course, if there’s any mangaka who would do the unexpected, it’s Fujimoto, so Chainsaw Man fans can never be 100% certain about their predictions of what’s to come. Still, the Blood Devil’s return is a plot thread that has been over 100 chapters in the making; it was only a matter of time before Denji sought out his best friend.

New chapters of the Chainsaw Man manga are released every Tuesday on Viz Media, Manga Plus and the Shonen Jump app.
