The clashes began on Tuesday February 17 in the evening when a vehicle from a travel agency, traveling on the road between Faya and Kouba Olanga, fell into an ambush set up by armed men. The driver was killed and the next day, clashes resumed between the attackers and the relatives of this first victim.

According to a local source, this is when the army intervenes and this second wave of clashes will end up costing the lives of four Chadian officers, including the commander of the gendarmerie legion and the head of the national and nomadic guard of the region. According to security sources, three attackers were killed.

The day after the clashes, the general delegate of the government, Djimta Ben Dergon, was suspended from his functions by the Ministry of Territorial Administration. The suspension accuses the general of fleeing and refusing to assume his responsibilities without mentioning these incidents.
