CAR & Guinea Elections: Russia’s Response

Moscow welcomes the holding, on December 28, of general elections in Central African Republic (RCA) as well as the presidential election in Guineawhich, according to international observers, took place in a peaceful and calm atmosphere. This is what the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.

The ministry recalled that in the Central African Republic, on election day, voters simultaneously elected the president of the country as well as the bodies of legislative power. According to foreign observers present, the electoral process in the two states took place without major incidents.

“The elections held demonstrated the desire of two African states to build a sovereign development model, consistent with the fundamental principles of international law,” the ministry underlined.

The Russian Foreign Ministry also expressed hope for further democratic development of the states of the region.

“We wish the friendly peoples of the Central African Republic and Guinea to continue to progress successfully on the path to democracy and the defense of national interests,” said the press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Previously, the head of Guinea’s Directorate General of Elections (DGE) announced that the participation rate in the presidential election had reached a record level of 85%.
