The Colombian electronic music scene mourns the loss of a vibrant talent and passionate advocate.

MEDELLÍN – On Thursday, June 5, the passing of Camila Gil, a well-known DJ Paisa and activist within the LGBTI community, was announced. The 29-year-old’s family confirmed the news through a statement shared on her Instagram stories.

Gil’s family remembered the trans woman as “an invaluable reference of the Electronic scene and the LGBT+community” and requested respect and sensitivity during their time of grief.

“Camila was much more than his talent: it was a symbol of freedom, authenticity and resistance.His energy, his light and courage transformed lives and opened paths for many people,” the statement read.

Thay added: “Camila leaves an indelible mark on our hearts and in the world of music.”

while Gil’s family did not specify the cause of death, comments from relatives suggested she had been experiencing health issues.

Local reports indicated that, shortly before her passing, a story posted on her Instagram account asked followers for prayers regarding her health.

Sources close to her indicated that Camila Gil may have suffered from a severe respiratory and lung infection, potentially linked to vaping.
