Three people suspected of cable theft were arrested on Friday in Thuringia, in central Germany, shortly after a disruption in rail traffic was reported, according to authorities.
According to the federal police, the incident was observed on a section located near a level crossing. During an on-site intervention, officers noted suspicious tracks in the snow, leading them to check a vehicle registered in Poland.
The three suspects, Romanian nationals aged 23 to 28, were already known to the police on suspicion of theft. Industrial bolt cutters were discovered in their possession.

On the railway track, the agents also observed the opening of cable boxes as well as the section of signaling cables. The suspects were arrested for disruption of a public service and damage to property.
National railway company Deutsche Bahn (DB) said repair work was expected to continue until Saturday.
