Byåsen Fires: Man Charged | NRK Trøndelag

Late Wednesday night, a fire was reported at Kyvatnet Nature Kindergarten.

Also August 17 it burned at the same kindergarten.

This is the last of a number of fires at Byåsen in Trondheim.

On Friday, police can confirm that they have arrested a man in his 40s.

– He is charged with gross damage to the fire foundation for both fires that have been at Kyvatnet Naturkindæråre, says guard lawyer Kristine S. Østergård at Trøndelag police district.

– It is the evidence in the case that makes it mean that there is reasonable reason for suspecting violation of serious damage.

She does not want to go into the specific evidence in the case.

The accused has been in conversation with police on Friday night. After an overall assessment, it has been decided to release the accused against the duty to report.

– The reason for this is health -related assessments, which the police cannot go into more detail, they write in a press release.

– We have at least found that after a thorough assessment that the obligation to report is sufficient. And that it was not proportionate to take care of the prisons, says Østergård.

The accused has been appointed Kolbjørn Lium for the defender.

Ten fires in a few months

The fire that broke out at Kyvatnet Naturkindshage on Wednesday night was the tenth fire on Byåsen since July.

Most fires have been to schools and kindergartens.

The police and the fire department have previously stated that they do not exclude that several of the fires on Byåsen have a connection.

Police say Friday night that they are continuing the investigation.

A few days later it also burned at Eberg school.

The police still want tips related to the fires on Byåsen.
