Urban Railway Expansion prioritized for Gangseo-gu
Busan’s Gangseo-gu is pushing forward with plans to expedite the construction of the Gangseo line, a new urban railway tram system. This initiative aims to improve transportation infrastructure and support the district’s rapid advancement.
Strategic Meetings and Expert Consultations
on April 2nd, Gangseo-gu officials convened a meeting with transportation experts and representatives from relevant organizations to discuss strategies for accelerating the Gangseo Line project. The discussions focused on overcoming potential hurdles and ensuring the project’s timely completion.
Driving Factors: Eco-Delta City and R&D Hub
the urgency to construct the Gangseo Line stems from the ongoing development of the 2nd Eco-Delta City and the establishment of a large-scale high-tech industrial complex in daeje-dong. These projects are expected to significantly increase the demand for efficient public transportation within Gangseo-gu.
The inclusion of the 2nd Eco-Delta City in the green Belt Personal and Regional Strategy Project on February 25th has further solidified the need for improved connectivity. This strategic alignment has dramatically improved the project’s cost-benefit analysis (B/C), making it more likely to secure the necessary funding and approvals.
Financial Hurdles and Collaborative solutions
Previously, the Gangseo Line project faced financial challenges due to Busan’s limited budget. However, a new approach involving shared project costs with entities benefiting from the line, such as the Water Resources Corporation, Korea Land and Housing Corporation, and Busan City Corporation, has emerged as a viable solution.
This collaborative funding model, coupled with active support from local lawmakers like Kim Do-eup, significantly increases the likelihood of securing the necessary financial resources. This is a crucial step in overcoming the primary obstacle to the Gangseo Line’s implementation.
“We will actively discuss with the relevant agencies to ensure the implementation of the Gangseo Line as much as possible to ensure that the inconvenience of public transportation can be resolved by local residents including Eco Delta City tenants,”
Kim Hyung-chan, head of Gangseo-gu
Looking Ahead: Improved Public Transportation for Residents
The successful implementation of the Gangseo Line promises to alleviate public transportation challenges for residents, including those in the Eco-Delta City. The project represents a significant investment in the future of Gangseo-gu,fostering economic growth and enhancing the quality of life for its residents.
According to recent data from the Busan Metropolitan Government, public transportation usage has increased by 15% in the last year, highlighting the growing need for expanded and improved transit options like the Gangseo Line.
