In her first year as a new, dynamic duo at the head of the Burgtheater, theater director became Stefan Bachmann and chief dramaturge Thomas Jonigk “Won received warmly in the house. But he also emphasized: “The star is the ensemble”. The attraction of the big stage stars like Stefanie Reinsperger and Nicholas Ofczarek is unbroken. With an occupancy of almost 80 percent in the Burgtheater, Academy Theater and Vestibül, the theater makers can look back on a satisfactory first season.
Casino shines in new splendor
In autumn, the casino on Schwarzenbergplatz will open its doors again after a year break. “We lacked the stage,” admits Bachmann. Six premieres are planned in the renovated house, including hybrid projects such as “Solaris” (June 11, 2026), in which spectators can be there in the theater and at home.
But it starts with the play “Turn” of the sought-after directing collective Gob SquadA co -production with Johann Strauss 2025 Vienna, which celebrates premiere on September 25th. From Thursday to Saturday there will now be readings, parties and the increasingly popular discourse formats, such as late night shows. After the successful start of the program for actors with physical and cognitive impairments, “now” moves from Vestibül to the larger casino (premiere is on April 23, 2026).
250 years of the Burgtheater
For the 250th anniversary, when the castle was raised to the National Theater, the audience also expects a plump program in the other houses. Of the 27 premieres, eight are celebrated in the Burgtheater, nine in the academy theater and four in the Vestibül. The opening production is a cooperation with the Salzburg Festival: Director Dušan David Pařízek return to the castle and present his version of September 5th of September 5th Karl Kraus’ “The last days of humanity”, among other things Michael Maertens and Dörte Lyssewski.
For the first time, the theater also co -produces with the Bregenz Festival.
