Bublik’s Vegas Trip Turns Season Around

After a disappointing loss at Indian wells, Alexander Bublik‘s coach suggested a detour to Las Vegas, resulting in an unexpected turnaround at the Phoenix Challenger.

Following a first-round exit at Indian Wells to Yosuke Watanuki, Alexander Bublik found himself with some unexpected free time. His coach,Artem Suprunov, proposed a road trip to Las Vegas before the Phoenix Challenger. Bublik, who had a season record of two wins and eight losses, received some blunt advice from Suprunov.

“He’s like, ‘Man, if you play like this, we’re just going to be out of tennis’, of the conversation by Wimbledon because that’s where my points are. After Wimbledon I made, like, 50 points,” he recalled.

Bublik agreed to the change of scenery, spending three days in Las Vegas. He arrived at his Phoenix opener with a “useless” mindset, deciding to simply “let it be.”

The unconventional approach proved successful.

The Vegas Reset

“I said, ‘Okay, let’s go to Vegas.’ We enjoy. we change the racquet. We did many things. I said, Okay, if it goes, it goes. if not, thank you very much, tennis, and it worked,”
