Youth Supervision Policy Implemented at Bridgewater Commons After Mall Disruptions

by [Invented Reporter] | BRIDGEWATER, NJ – 2025/06/01 17:12:01

In response to recent incidents at other New Jersey shopping centers, Bridgewater Commons implemented a temporary youth supervision policy on Saturday.

The policy was enacted to prevent potential pop-up parties adn disturbances, similar to those that occurred at Menlo Park and Woodbridge Malls.

Authorities maintained a visible presence with increased security measures throughout the day.

Molly Dauernheim, a 20-year-old from Branchburg, visited the mall with her father, Bob. “The only reason I brought [my dad] was because people kept on saying that there were large crowds and he’s good under pressure,” said Molly Dauernheim. “So if something happens, he’ll know what to do.”

The Dauernheims were among many shoppers who encountered signs outlining the new rules.

The temporary policy required all minors to be accompanied by a parent or guardian over the age of 21 between the hours of 12 p.m. and 9 p.m.

Shoppers React to Heightened Security

Bob Dauernheim expressed concern about the increasing frequency of such events. “You hear about things like this all the time but you never think that being in your area or affecting you or your family,” Bob Dauernheim said. “You just have to be a little bit more on the lookout for things.”

A mobile command center, along with police vehicles from various local departments, was stationed in the parking lot.Security personnel checked identifications at the entrances, and minors received wristbands.

“I think that’s it’s just wierd that it’s happening at the mall,” Molly Dauernheim said.

molly Dauernheim shared her thoughts on the situation: “I think that’s it’s just weird that it’s happening at the mall,” Molly Dauernheim said. “I think it puts a lot of age groups in danger. I think checking in is fine, but it’s also weird.”

Multiple security stations were strategically placed throughout the mall, and officers from diffrent agencies maintained a watchful presence.

linda Kerrigan, another shopper, commented on the measures taken. “It seems like whatever was planned, was stopped, but this isn’t a sustainable way to maintain safety in public places,” said Linda Kerrigan. “But today’s a safe day to be at the mall.”

The mobile command unit and additional officers departed when the mall closed for the night.
