John Stamos, a longtime friend of The Beach Boys, was with Mike Love when news broke of Brian Wilson’s death on Wednesday. Stamos, known for his role in “Full House,” had the arduous task of informing Love, wilson’s cousin and bandmate, of the passing.

Stamos recounted the somber moment to the New York Post, stating, “I said, ‘Mike, your cousin passed away,’ and his face whent blank. And we sat in the car for two and a half hours or so … he didn’t say one word.”

Brian Wilson, the creative force behind The Beach Boys, passed away on Wednesday at the age of 82. The Wilson family shared a statement on social media and his website, expressing their profound grief: “We are at a loss for words right now.” While the cause of death was not disclosed, Wilson had been diagnosed with dementia and placed under a conservatorship in May 2024. Along with his struggles with mental health and drug addiction,Wilson co-founded The Beach Boys in 1961 alongside his brothers Dennis and Carl,and cousin Mike Love.

Stamos, 61, reflected on this emotional event on Thursday before the Songwriters Hall of Fame induction ceremony in New York. Love was among the inductees, along with George clinton, Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins, and The Doobie Brothers. Despite his initial silence upon hearing of Wilson’s death, Stamos understood Love’s feelings. the actor, who has performed with The Beach Boys for many years, told the Post that “they made stunning music together.”

During the Songwriters Hall of Fame ceremony, john Stamos introduced Mike Love, who honored Wilson as “my brother in music.” This tribute followed Love’s social media post on wednesday.

John Stamos joined numerous high-profile figures in paying tribute to brian Wilson on social media. Elton John, Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood of The Rolling Stones, Mick Fleetwood, Bruce Springsteen, Nancy Sinatra, and California Gov. Gavin Newsom also shared their respects for Wilson.

Gov.Gavin Newsom stated, “Wilson fundamentally changed modern music, helping make the Beach Boys not only the defining American band of their era, but also the California band to this day. He captured the mystique and magic of California, carrying it around the world and across generations.”

The Beach Boys became synonymous with the California sound, thanks to iconic songs like “Surfer Girl,” “California Girls,” and “wouldn’t It Be Nice.”

brian Wilson is survived by six children, including Carnie and Wendy Wilson, who were part of the Grammy-nominated group Wilson Phillips with chynna Phillips. He was preceded in death by his wife,Melinda,who passed away in January 2024. His brother Dennis drowned in 1983, and his other brother, Carl, died of lung cancer in 1998.
