In the main round of the season in the 2nd Baseball Bundesliga Nord, the Bremen Dockers had regularly prevailed against the Kiel Seahawks. Accordingly, they confidently went into the play-off series about the qualification for the 1st Bundesliga. They also benefited them that the Kielers had to exchange their home rights. The quarter-finals in the Dockers, Fritz-Schütt Stadium at home, could have been decided if everything had gone well. However, the hosts did not find the first of the two encounters at all and lost the game narrowly with 13:14. After the Bremen Dockers acted much better in game two, they prevailed with 12: 2-and now have to win in the Förde Ball Park in Kiel next Sunday (12 p.m.) in order to be able to move into the semi-finals as the winner of the best-of-3 comparison.
At the beginning of the double match day, Bremen’s Pitcher Edvardas Matusevicius had big problems keeping the opposing strikers at bay. In addition, the Bremern did not make much of the offensive, which the opponents understood mercilessly. The Kielers quickly settled to 9: 2, and only when Fabrizio Cagliani took over the drop hill for the Dockers started the brilliant catch -up. In the sixth inning, hits from Alberto Orti, Yannick Bujalla, Patrick Sons and Michael Bockhop as well as four runs contributed to the fact that the dockers could shorten the distance, in the eighth inning they even equalized to 11:11. “Unfortunately, the ninth inning went 3-2 to Kiel,” said Dockers department head Niclas Führling, “so that an unfortunate defeat was in the end.”
In the second game, which the hosts had to decide for themselves, the Dockers dominated their opponent from the start and left the place with a clear 12: 2 success. Already in the first inn, the Bremen brought three points to the scoreboard, while Kiel initially remained without points. Dockers-Pitcher Alberto Orti allowed only two runs of the guests until the fourth inning. His own team, on the other hand, literally blossomed in view of another 7: 0 points and decided the game in the fifth round due to the “10 run rule” prematurely with 12: 2. “In Kiel we will do everything we can to choose the game for us,” assured Niclas Führling, whose team in the semi -finals are waiting for either the Neuenkirchen Nightmares or the Braunschweig 89ers.
If the Bremeners actually win the semi-finals and also conquer Dohren or Dortmund in the final, they would be entitled to the right of ascent to the Baseball Oberhaus. However, the team will not pull this option, as Führling explained. “No play-off winner wanted to climb in recent years because it would not have been enough in terms of level,” said the Dockers department head. “We would not climb this year either because it does not fit financially, but also privately,” added Führling, “because some of our players are family fathers who cannot go somewhere all weekend.”
First of all, a concept must be developed, according to Führling, “to put the club broader and to find sponsors so that we may be able to move up to the first Bundesliga in the next few years”. Until then, the focus is on the further development of the players, “so that we will play a good role in the second Bundesliga in the coming years”.
