“Stop the unjustified massacre! “, this is what we can read on the call for demonstrations launched on the social network Facebook by the Hérault Peasant Confederation. The latter is organizing a gathering this Sunday December 14 has Vendargues“against this state violence”, in support for breeders concerned by measures to combat bovine lumpy skin disease.
Appointment and planned blocking
The merger is announced at 8 a.m. in the Espace La Cadoule parking lot in Vendargues, before a departure towards the A9 motorway entrance roundabout between Vendargues and Baillargues for a blocking. The union’s call is open to all those who wish to join the mobilization “peasant or not, any union, any political side welcome”, specifying thatno political recovery would not be tolerated.
Another union very active on the subject, the Rural Coordination, mobilized in Clermont-l’Hérault, where hay was placed in front of the Mutualité Sociale Agricole, and in Lodève, where bales of hay were also placed in the courtyard of the prefecture, while tires were piled up in front of the Public Finance Center this Friday, December 12.
A national health context, measures also in Hérault
Lumpy skin disease (DNC) is a viral disease that appeared in France last June. It affects cattle exclusively and is not not transmissible to humans. European regulations having classified it in category A, this implies theslaughter of the entire herd in which a case is proven. This, even if some animals are asymptomatic.
To date, Hérault has no DNC centers. Nevertheless, the breeders are united and the department is directly affected by national measuresin particular: the ban on cattle and festive gatherings (abrivados, bullfights, bullfighting festivals, competitions, fairs), reinforced road checks, the disinsection of all means of transport of cattle in the event of movement outside France, as well as the notification of movements of cattle to be made within 24 hours (instead of seven days) following the movement.
