Norwegian football’s new favorite stormed forward with the ball at his feet for 70 meters and started Brann‘s gold party.
Signe Gaupset got the ball 20 meters away own goal, after 13 touches of the ball she knocked it in from 16 metres. A series gold could not be won more beautifully and afterwards a violent firework could be set loose in the wind and rain, in front of over 8,000 spectators at Brann Stadion.
– Nice to see it finish in front of the fans. I just have to go for it, Gaupset told TV 2 during the break – as if it was the world’s most natural goal.
– Indescribable. Absolutely fantastic. Now we can finally celebrate, she stated when the 2–1 victory over Rosenborg was clear. Brann is ten points ahead of Vålerenga, who are thus out of points range.
Now Gaupset is probably lost to Norwegian club football, and this is in many ways her gold.
– Without Gaupset, Brann would not have been where they are today, stated TV2 expert Ingrid Ryland before the match. She was there when Brann won its previous series gold, in 2022, together with a 17-year-old Signe Gaupset.
She is now 20 and scored both goals when strong Japan were beaten 2-0 four days ago. In the Toppserien, Gaupset has 15 goals, but just as much she has been a driving force in terms of play.
But now Signe Gaupset is on her way away from Brann. She has been very clear that she wants to leave after the season, even though she is tied to Brann for two more years.
– I think we who have seen her live for Brann this season will talk about it for a long time. It is a player everyone will be talking about in Bergen for a long time, says Ingrid Ryland to Bergensavisen.
There are many indications that Gaupset ends up in the English league, and her former coach in Brann, Martin Ho, is the favorite to secure Gaupset, to Tottenham. The London club is currently in fourth place, behind Chelsea and the two Manchester clubs.
After the break, Finnish Nea Lehtola made it 2-0 early on, Scottish Lauren Davidson hit the post after a beautiful finish by Gaupset. Instead, Rosenborg were reduced by Ine Berre just ten minutes before the end, but the Trønders got no closer.
- Rosenborg must realize that second place is likely to slip away. There are three points up to Vålerenga, who have three games left, Rosenborg only two.
