Sore doubt

TV 2 expert comes with a tough message and is unsure if Gemma Grainger trains Norway next World Cup. She herself calls the championship for the World Cup preparation.

– If we are going to consider Gemma Grainger’s championship, match management, team outlets, troop socket – I would say it is under par. I’m not sure Grainger is the right coach for Norway towards the World Cup in 2027, says TV 2 expert Yaw Amankwah.

The reactions hailed after Norway ran out of the European Championships with losses for Italy on Wednesday night. The criticism was not just about the fight, but also about the championship as a whole.

Norway won all the matches in the group play, but did not convince – at least not according to several experts. Especially the achievements against Switzerland and Finland were met with criticism.

Just before midnight, just hours after the em exit, Amankwah expresses doubts about British Grainger the right woman to lead the team further.

– Why?

– I am not convinced when I see Norway play. What is she wanting to get out of the Norwegian team? answers amankwah and continues:

– The press game hits too rarely, in the free play we take for periods of high risk. I miss a plan B inside the matches so that the bad periods turn faster. I think she is too conservative in the comb plans. She works, for me, a little too keen to take care of the very biggest stars, says the TV 2 profile.

Amankwah is supported by colleague Ingrid Ryland.

– We have more questions than answers. It is becoming clearer now that it weighs the most against the fact that the answer is no, Ryland answers questions about whether Grainger is the right person to lead Norway to the next World Cup.

The championship in 2027 will be played in Brazil.

She justifies:

– We are not good enough defensively. We do not appear as a collective and do not get the individual qualities that we know players have. It is the coaches’ task to get the potential out of the players, both individually and collectively.

At the press conference after the European Championship exit, Grainger says happy with the championship, pointing out that for the first time in 12 years, Norway managed to get out of the group play.

– I want to look back on this European Championship with great pride. We came here as a team and the goal was to get out of the group. We did it. The players showed, with nine points in the group, who they were, says Grainger.

This year’s European Championship was Grainger’s first major championship as a Norwegian head coach. If we believe the British ourselves, it will not be the last.

– We are a group that takes steps in the right direction. I will look at this as preparations before the World Cup in Brazil.
