Hamburg to Host Federal Defense Minister and Military Ceremony
Germany is set to observe its inaugural Veteran’s Day this Sunday, with a particular focus on honoring soldiers in Hamburg. Federal Defense Minister boris pistorius (SPD) is scheduled to attend events in teh city.
Captain Kurt Leonards,commander of the Hamburg State Command,emphasizes that the day aims to recognize and appreciate the service of Bundeswehr soldiers.
Germany has approximately ten million veterans, encompassing active, former, time-based, and professional soldiers. Veteran’s Day seeks to increase their visibility and acknowledge their contributions to the nation and society.
Military Ceremony at Town Hall Market
A military ceremony will take place at the town hall market on Sunday at 1 p.m. four hundred and twenty soldiers from the Helmut Schmidt University of the Bundeswehr in Wandsbek will be promoted to Lieutenants in the presence of Federal Defense Minister Boris Pistorius (SPD). Following the ceremony, Mayor Peter Tschentscher (SPD) will host a reception for veterans at the town hall.

Counter-Protests Planned in City Center
The new day of remembrance is not without its detractors. Three smaller demonstrations have been registered in Hamburg’s city center, including protests from left-leaning groups who oppose the increased military presence in public spaces.
