It was 6:03 am on Saturday (22). The sun had already risen in Brasília when five unmarked PF (Federal Police) vehicles arrived at the Solar de Brasília condominium, in Jardim Botânico, to arrest former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL).
The agents rang the house’s intercom, and the person who answered and opened the gate was the former president’s brother-in-law.
Police officers from the DIP (Directorate of Intelligence) entered Bolsonaro’s house, and he was already taking a shower to be arrested.
Reports of the arrest heard by CNN indicate that the former president was already awaiting the arrival of the police, after having damaged his electronic ankle bracelet during the early hours of the morning.
There was no reaction — unlike the episode in which he was searched and seized and received an ankle bracelet, when he said “supreme injustice”, according to police officers.
With the arrest warrant announced, Bolsonaro did not respond; he simply walked towards the exit door of the house. But a PF delegate asked the former president to pack a suitcase with clothes.
Bolsonaro then put some items in a camping backpack, including a cold-weather sweater.
On the street of the condominium, there were PF agents from the COT (Tactical Operations Command), a special division that could be activated if there were heated feelings or any demonstration against the arrest of the former president.
At 6:24 am, the PF car left the condominium with Bolsonaro already under arrest. CNN recorded the vehicles leaving. In the convoy of five unmarked cars, Bolsonaro was in the second, sitting in the back seat — on the right.
In absolute silence, the former president was escorted for ten minutes to the PF Superintendency, at the end of Asa Sul in Brasília.
At exactly 6:35 am, the politician arrived arrested at the PF building, at a time also recorded by CNN Brasil. The vehicle did not have tinted glass.
The first vehicle was occupied by COT police officers, with balaclavas covering their faces.
Upon arrival, Bolsonaro underwent a criminal examination, which lasted around ten minutes, and was then taken to a room to remove the damaged electronic ankle bracelet. He was then taken to the cell where he remains.
The space has a bed with mattress, air conditioning, minibar, television and window.
