A boy and a girl aged 17 are stuck on Saturday evening near the mountain peak Sveningen in Bjørnafjorden municipality.
– Rescue has been initiated. Representatives from the Red Cross are on their way, says operations manager Frode Kolltveit in the West police district.
According to Kolltveit, it is dark, dense fog and a lot of snow in the area. Therefore, the safest thing is for the two to stay calm on the mountain, and then the Red Cross goes up to meet them there.
At 2230 the Red Cross is in the last, steep part before the mountain top.
Demanding
The two young people state that they are somewhat cold.
– Their position is known, and there is some capacity on their mobiles, reports Kolltveit.
The police are occasionally in contact with them via SMS.
Sveningen is 842 meters high. The two should be just below the top.
– A lot of snow on the way to the top makes access difficult. It will still be quite a while, up to two hours, before they are at the top. The two people in distress have been briefed, reports Kolltveit at 11pm.
Have sought shelter in a shed
According to the police, the two teenagers have taken refuge in a shed in the area.
– They are not injured. Based on the conditions and the fact that it was getting dark, they did not dare to move down without help. They also brought a dog.
The 17-year-olds are said to have started the trip from Lønningdal. The police were notified on Saturday at 1828.
Frode Kolltveit believes the rescue operation will go well.
– We have some contact, and they know that help is on the way. We have to believe that this will work out for the best.
