The burgeoning market for Bitcoin Exchange Traded Products (ETPs) in Europe is witnessing a fierce battle for market share. Just a day after BlackRock launched its inaugural European Bitcoin ETP, WisdomTree has announced a countermove, signaling an intensifying price war.
WisdomTree Slashes Fees on Physical Bitcoin ETP
WisdomTree, a veteran player in the European ETP landscape, is temporarily reducing the management fee for its WisdomTree Physical Bitcoin ETP (BTCW). Effective March 26th and lasting until December 31, 2025, the fee will be lowered from 0.25% to a competitive 0.15%. This strategic decision aims to solidify WisdomTree’s position as a leading provider of physically-backed Bitcoin ETPs in Europe.

BlackRock’s Entry Sparks Fee Reduction
This fee reduction comes hot on the heels of BlackRock’s entry into the European Bitcoin ETP market wiht the iShares bitcoin ETP (IB1T Ticker), trading on exchanges like Xetra, Euronext Paris, and Amsterdam. BlackRock has also adopted a promotional fee of 0.15% until the end of 2025, clearly aiming to aggressively capture market share.This move underscores the growing institutional interest in Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, as evidenced by the increasing number of ETPs available to European investors.
WisdomTree’s Strong Track Record
Despite the new competition, WisdomTree boasts a strong track record in the European cryptocurrency ETP market.In 2024, the company led in net asset inflows for cryptocurrency ETPs, attracting $520 million, with $232 million specifically allocated to its Bitcoin ETP. This demonstrates investor confidence in WisdomTree’s existing product and its ability to navigate the evolving digital asset landscape.
A Look at the WisdomTree Physical Bitcoin ETP
Launched in 2019, the WisdomTree Physical Bitcoin ETP has a proven history, managing $880 million in assets. It is indeed traded on major European exchanges, including London, Frankfurt, Zurich, Paris, and Amsterdam. Notably, Coinbase serves as the custodian for both the WisdomTree ETP and BlackRock’s new offering, highlighting the importance of secure and reliable custody solutions in the digital asset space. The increasing availability and competition among Bitcoin ETPs are expected to further drive institutional and retail adoption of Bitcoin in Europe. As of early 2025, assets under management (AUM) in cryptocurrency ETPs and ETFs globally have surpassed $100 billion, according to data from CCData, indicating the growing mainstream acceptance of these investment vehicles.
