An unusual but serious project is causing a stir in the Belgian gastronomy scene: Alain Delahaut and Bénédicte Lejeune from Theux have launched an online platform that rates restaurants not only based on cuisine and service, but also on the quality of their toilets.
Users of the Wow-resto.com website can rate toilets based on three criteria: design, hygiene and accessibility. The rating is based on a star system, supplemented by short comments. This is to avoid guests experiencing unpleasant surprises behind the toilet door.
According to Delahaut, toilets often reflect a restaurateur’s care and sense of hygiene. Around 20,000 restaurants across Belgium are currently recorded, and around 100 restaurants have already received reviews.
