the first edition of the National University Championships, organized by ANUIES, commences today, May 9th, across various campuses in Saltillo, Coahuila. This highly anticipated tournament brings together some of the nation’s top collegiate basketball programs, promising intense competition and a celebration of university athletics. The women’s tournament features twenty teams, strategically divided into five groups, while the men’s bracket showcases sixteen teams, organized into four groups.

Women’s Tournament: A Battleground of Emerging and Established Programs

The women’s division is especially noteworthy, featuring teams with significant presence in the liga ABE’s First Division. Teams like the Borregas of Tec Hidalgo and Tec Aguascalientes, along with the CEU Gallos, Cetys Tijuana (who secured fourth place in the “Ocho Grandes” tournament), and the UANL Tigres, runners-up in the Women’s División I, are expected to make deep runs in the tournament.
