Archynetys –

A Unique Broadcast from teh Equinox Media Library

The Equinox media library in Châteauroux became a vibrant hub of discussion and entertainment this past Saturday as the Ballistiq Café radio program hosted a live broadcast featuring comic book author Laurent Astier. The event, drawing a crowd that necessitated extra seating, offered a unique blend of literary discussion and musical performance.

From Whispers to Lively discussion

Anthony Raffé,the host of Ballistiq Café,noted the program’s growing relationship with the media library. Each time, at the start of the program, we talk to each other in a low voice… Little by little the voice goes up. This observation highlights the gradual warming of the atmosphere as the show progresses, transforming the traditionally quiet library into a lively space for open dialog.

Discovering New Voices

among the attendees was Dominique, a local resident who was new to Ballistiq radio. She, along with others, was drawn to the event by an email from the media library, highlighting the opportunity for discovery. This underscores the role of local media and libraries in connecting artists with new audiences.

Astier’s Whirlwind Tour

Raffé emphasized Astier’s demanding schedule, which included a press day in Brussels, the Paris Book Fair, and now, a visit to Châteauroux. This appearance was described as the front-of-one by Astier himself, marking a significant stop on his promotional tour.

A Day of Literary and Musical Exploration

The event, co-organized with Franck Plisson of Librairix bookstore, included a radio interview, book signings, and a concert by The Disorders at the “without chichi” venue later that evening. This multifaceted approach provided attendees with a rich and immersive experience.

The Personal Connection Behind “The Strength of Living”

Astier discussed the inspiration behind his new book, The Strength of Living, focusing on his friendship with Cyril, whom he described as having markers who made me think of a superhero. The book chronicles Cyril’s battle against illness, aiming to create a hopeful and universal narrative. the purpose of a story is to start from personal equipment and do something that will be hopeful, universal. Something where people can project themselves into history. This sentiment reflects a growing trend in graphic novels, where personal stories are used to explore broader themes of resilience and human connection.

Regional Connections and Time Management

the conversation also touched on regional connections, with one attendee, Hélène, noting similarities between Astier’s background in Saint-Etienne and her own in Montélimar. Raffé, mindful of the program’s schedule, humorously referred to his driver on radio, emphasizing the need to stay on track.

Looking Ahead

Following the radio show, Astier was scheduled for a four-hour book signing session and the evening concert. The Strength of Living was officially released in bookstores on April 23rd, marking the culmination of Astier’s promotional efforts.
