Police told Reuters the 58-year-old British man fell from the 17th floor of an 18-story apartment building on February 9.

According to initial data of the investigation, suicide is suspected, and so far there is no evidence of a crime.

CCTV cameras did not show anyone else entering his apartment, where he lived alone. His body has been sent for an autopsy, the police said.

Authorities also cited a Thai friend of his who said Griffiths was worried about lawsuits filed by his ex-wife, who is a Thai citizen. Documents related to these cases were found in his apartment.

British entrepreneur Quentin Griffiths co-founded ASOS in London in 2000 with Nick Robertson. The company began its operations under the name As Seen On Screen, and in 2002 adopted the abbreviated name ASOS.

In 2001, the company began to sell its shares on the London Stock Exchange through the Alternative Investment Market (AIM), giving it access to external financing and supporting its rapid growth.

In the following years, it became one of the largest online fashion stores in the world. Her models have been worn by Rihanna and Michelle Obama. Griffiths left the company in 2005, but remained among its main shareholders for nearly ten more years.

Later he developed other business projects. These include online furniture store Achica, EBTM – an online fashion platform inspired by the music scene, and Adili – an ethical fashion site.

EBTM subsequently filed for bankruptcy and Adili was sold for the token sum of £1.

The British Foreign Office said it was providing support to the family of a British citizen who died in Thailand and was liaising with local authorities.

The largest shareholder in ASOS is Danish businessman Anders Holk Povlsen – owner of the fashion group Bestseller, which owns brands such as Vero Moda and Jack & Jones. In 2019, he lost three of his four children in the Easter bombings in Sri Lanka, in which more than 290 people were killed. The attacks were carried out by the local Islamist group National Thowheeth Jama’ath, with Islamic State later claiming responsibility.

According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, his net worth is estimated at around $5.7 billion. Together with his wife, he owns approximately 800,000 acres of land in Scotland – more than 1% of the country’s territory, according to Forbes. In March 2025, Povlsen increased his stake in ASOS from 27% to 28%, making him the company’s largest shareholder.
