Delhi Police to Take Action as AAP Van Attacked During Delhi Assembly Elections

NEW DELHI: An altercation involving the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has cast a shadow over the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections. Arvind Kejriwal, the AAP’s Chief, has raised an alarm by posting a video clip on X showcasing a group of men surrounding an AAP campaign van and defacing the party’s posters.

Delhi Police Response

In response to Kejriwal’s concerns, the New Delhi Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) stated that no preliminary complaint or Police Complaint Register (PCR) call had been received in a police station. However, the DCP assured Kejriwal that strict legal action would be taken once a formal complaint was filed.

“No PCR call or complaint received in the police station. It is requested that a formal complaint may be lodged in the Police station, and we assure strict legal action,” said the Delhi Police in response to Kejriwal’s allegations.

Protests and Accusations

The incident reportedly took place when members of the Valmiki Samaj and Dalit Panthers targeted AAP’s campaign activities during a protest against Kejriwal. In response, Kejriwal published a video clip, blaming Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister, for orchestrating the attack.

Kejriwal’s clip indicates that two individuals involved in the attack were close associates of Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma, a candidate running against Kejriwal from the New Delhi assembly seat.

Additional Incidents Reported

Furthermore, another concerning incident unfolded during an AAP rally in the Rithala constituency when AAP MLA Mohinder Goyal was attacked. The attack left Goyal unconscious, prompting a police call at around 11:15 a.m. Upon arrival, the police team found Goyal at the scene.

“We had received a call that Aam Aadmi Party MLA Mohinder Goyal has been assaulted and he has fallen unconscious,” said police officials.

BJP Accusations

AAP MP Sanjay Singh joined the fray by alleging that the BJP had orchestrated the assault against his colleague, Goyal. He questioned the role of the Election Commission (EC) in addressing such acts of violence.

“BJP is losing badly in Delhi, and in frustration, it has resorted to violence. AAP MLA @MohinderAAP from Rithala was attacked by BJP goons. Where is the Election Commission sleeping?” tweeted Singh.

Upcoming Elections

These events have occurred amid the buildup to the Delhi Assembly elections, which are scheduled to take place in a single phase on February 5, with the vote counting set for February 8.

The series of incidents involving politics and voter intimidation are likely to intensify even more as the election date looms.

Conclusion

Amidst this political tension, the Delhi Police has committed to investigating the claims made by Kejriwal and AAP. The expected formal complaints could potentially bring some clarity to the events that transpired during the political campaign.
