Arvind Kejriwal Announces Press Conference on Critical Issue Ahead of Delhi Elections
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal announced a press conference on a critical issue at 1 pm today. This comes amidst the high-stakes Delhi assembly election, scheduled for February 5.
“My PC today on a v v v imp issue at 1 pm,” Kejriwal stated on microblogging platform X, hinting at the gravity of the topic.
Delhi Assembly Elections Loom Large
The poll results for the Delhi assembly election are scheduled to be announced on February 8. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress party are formidable contenders, aiming to prevent AAP from winning for a third consecutive term.
Amit Shah’s Critique of AAP
Amit Shah, a key BJP leader, addressed public meetings ahead of the election, criticizing the AAP’s performance. He accused the AAP government of corruption, citing several scams, including the DTC bus scam, smart classroom scam, and CCTV scam.
“The AAP government did not do anything during its 10-year tenure apart from betraying the people of Delhi,” Shah charged. He emphasized that public money intended for vital projects like new hospitals, schools, and cleaning the Yamuna river was misused in these scams.
Shah also criticized Kejriwal’s personal financial dealings, claiming he had built a ‘sheesh mahal’ worth ₹52 crore, contrary to his promise of not accepting any government bungalow.
The BJP leader further alleged that Kejriwal was involved in a liquor scandal worth crores and had opened liquor shops near schools and religious places despite promising to shut them in residential areas.
BJP’s Promises and Rebuttals
Shah defended the BJP’s record, asserting that the party’s “double-engine” government would fulfill all its promises. He clarified that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had assured that no welfare scheme for the poor in Delhi would be discontinued if the BJP came to power.
“Arvind Kejriwal is spreading lies,” Shah emphasized. “They are misleading people. I am saying it again that the BJP will not discontinue any scheme meant for the welfare of the poor,” he repeated at a public rally in Rajouri Garden, campaigning for the BJP’s candidate Manjinder Singh Sirsa.
Context and Implications
The timing of Kejriwal’s press conference is significant, coming just days before the election. The AAP, facing strong opposition, is likely to use this platform to counter BJP allegations and reinforce its stance on key issues affecting Delhi residents.
As the polling day approaches, the eyes of the nation are set on Delhi, where the battle for control of the capital city will determine which political party’s vision for governance will prevail.
