Arroyo Lions Rugby, current League and Cup champion of the Regional Men’s League of Castilla y León, closes the year 2025 with a very positive balance both in sports and structural matters, consolidating itself as one of the most solid projects in regional rugby.
After the first days of the championship, the Lions are in second position in the table, with one game less than the leader, and keep their chances of retaining the title intact. The team has shown remarkable consistency, with worthy victories both at home and away, and only one narrow defeat in Palencia, which was also the last game of the year.
The president of the club, Sam Katz, has assessed the moment the entity is going through very positively. «The balance until Christmas is very good. Not only because of the results, but because of the growth we are seeing as a club. This year we have had an increase of around 25% in chips, now exceeding 100 players, which shows that the project continues to excite and attract many people from Arroyo and surrounding areas,” he comments. «We are the current champions and we know that all our rivals demand the maximum from us. That forces us to maintain a high level every week, but the group is responding with commitment, work and a very clear identity,” he concludes.
From inside the locker room, the captain of the senior team, David Pérez, has highlighted the competitiveness of the championship and the character of the group. «The Regional League is being very tough and even. Every game is a battle, but the team is united and hungry. We know what it costs to win and what it costs to defend a title, and that shows in the group’s attitude,” he clarifies.
Beyond the first team, the club continues to grow strongly in its Rugby School, with teams from category M6 to M12, which have had a prominent presence in concentrations and tournaments held in Valladolid and Salamanca during the last weeks of the year.
With the arrival of 2026, the calendar intensifies, the Regional League will end before the end of March, with a demanding second round in which the Arroyo Lions will play 6 of their 9 remaining home games in Sotoverde, in what promises to be a decisive stretch of the championship. «We enter 2026 with enthusiasm, ambition and our feet on the ground. We know there is still a lot to do, but we are exactly where we want to be,” concludes Sam Katz.
