Armie Hammer Denies Allegations of Cannibalism and Sexual Abuse in Louis Theroux Podcast
The contentious accusations against actor Armie Hammer continue to make headlines as he takes a stand to defend himself. In an exclusive interview on Louis Theroux’s podcast on Spotify, Hammer firmly denies being a cannibal and any sexually abusive behavior towards women.
Hammer’s Denial of Being a Cannibal
When Theroux directly questioned him about being a cannibal, Hammer gave a straightforward response. “To be considered a cannibal,” he explained, “one must consume human flesh. That’s something I haven’t done.” His answer cuts to the core of the accusation, emphasizing the literal action needed to be deemed a cannibal.
The Accusations Against Armie Hammer
Back in 2021, Hammer found himself in hot water when a woman known as Effie accused him of raping her in 2017 and shared controversial texts she said he had sent. The texts contained statements like Hammer declaring himself a cannibal. Since then, at least two other women have come forward with similar accusations of sexual coercion and emotional abuse from Hammer between 2017 and 2020.
Hammer’s Take on the Allegations
Hammer chose not to argue about the content of the messages, stating that they formed only one side of the conversation. He suggested that sometimes he had fun joking about such matters when he was stoned, drunk, or laughing while typing. Hammer acknowledged that the messages were part of a sequence that should not be taken at face value without understanding the full context.
The Hunting Incident
One of the other accusations involves Hammer eating an animal’s heart in its entirety, a behavior he also denies. He conversed about a tradition among hunters to consume part of a heart before their peers. Hammer’s explanation aligns with cultural practices among hunters, making his behavior less shocking within this context.
Admitting to Asshole Behavior
While Hammer does not contest the hurt caused by his actions, he differentiates between criminality and assholery. “Yes, I caused a lot of anger,” he said. Hammer openly admits he was “asshole behavior,” pointing out that it was irresponsible but not necessarily illegal.
The Impact and His Recovery
The scandal led to the cancellation of much of his acting work. Unable to ignore the impact of his actions, Hammer embarked on a journey of healing. He admitted to entering a trauma treatment facility, a decision he credits with being one of the most beneficial steps he took. Recovery, he emphasized, played a significant role in his ability to move forward.
Future Projects and Unlikely Jobs
Hammer expressed optimism about his professional future. Recently, he completed a film in the US and has received multiple job offers. In the meantime, he took up temporary jobs such as selling timeshares in the Cayman Islands, working as a school greenskeeper, and managing an apartment block. While he enjoyed these roles, he couldn’t secure a work visa for the Cayman Islands.
Opinion on Collaborating with Woody Allen
Louis Theroux also asked Hammer whether he would work with Woody Allen, another controversial figure from Hollywood. Hammer suggested that outright refusing wouldn’t serve justice. Instead, he proposed meeting with Woody Allen directly to discuss the matter and make an informed decision.
