With AirTags 2, launched a few days ago, Apple added a new function to Apple Watches: the U2 chip (sorry, the 2nd generation Ultra Wideband chip) integrated into watches from the Apple Watch Series 9 can finally interact with AirTags. We saw in the test, Apple added a widget in this control center which allows you to obtain the precise location of an AirTag 2, also equipped with the U2 chip. A function reserved for the new tag… and only for the new tag.
AirTag 2 test: twice as easy to find?
Why specify it? Because another Apple product integrates a U2 chip: the AirPods Pro 3 case. But whether with the current version of watchOS (26.2) or the next version (26.3, available in RC), the function is reserved for AirTags 2. The widget only offers AirTags 2 and the watch’s Find apps (there is one dedicated to devices, a second for objects) do not offer detection of the AirPods Pro 3 case.

The improved precision of the U2 chip comes in handy with the case, however, and it is perfectly compatible with all equipped iPhones. But perhaps Apple will offer a revamped version of the apps in a future version of watchOS to add this function.
