France is the country in Europe with the most pets. 60% of French people own a cat, a dog, a hamster, a rabbit or even a ferret (the famous NAC, new pets). 94% of these French people consider their animal as a loved one. For 68 % of the latter, their animal is a full member of the family. A companion that we cherish and who, when he bows out, must, for all these families, be the subject of a special tribute. Tribute offered by the Castelsarrasin animal crematorium in the Tarn-et-Garonne department.

Ernest Costa is at the head of the Esthima animal crematorium, which, in France, currently has around twenty establishments. Contacted by Occitanie Newsthe latter explains that in recent years, the cremation of pets has undergone a “very marked evolution. » He continues: “until recently, we were doing a lot less. We carry out this profession by passion for animalsbut also because we understand the pain that can cause loss of a pet. We feel useful when it comes tosupporting families during these difficult times. »
In collaboration with veterinarians
Founded in 1995the Esthima franchise has thus offered for the first time in France an alternative to rendering and works hand in hand with numerous veterinarians, who can thus inform the public about this option. Cremation which allows us to offer these faithful companions a tribute worthy of the place they held in the daily life of their families but also of respect the law regarding the fate of pet remains.
What to do with your pet’s remains?
French law is very clear on this subject: it is strictly forbidden to bury an animal yourself. Including in his own garden. Disposing of it in a trash can, a watercourse or even a sewer is also prohibited. The risk? A fine of €3,750! So what to do? The body of the animal, whether it is a dog, a cat or even a rabbit, must be entrusted to a veterinarian, who will have it cremated. It is specified that this process must be carried out within 48 hours at the latest, and that a declaration may be requested. It is also possible to avoid going to the veterinary clinic, particularly when the animal dies at home, and to contact a crematorium or animal cemetery directly.
Say goodbye to your pet
The Castelsarrasin crematorium offers several cremation options. The most popular? The plural formula. Less expensive, this consists of taking care of the animal which then undergoes collective cremation, with other pets. For information purposes, this service is offered to 105 € for dogs and cats and €75 for NACs.
For families who wish to bring back the ashes of their animal and for example place them in an urn, Esthima offers a formula Reference billed 245 € for dogs and cats, which consists of a individual cremationwith restitution of the ashes in a dispersion tube or a decorative urn.
Private ceremony
Finally, the animal crematorium can also organize a private cremation, very similar to a cremation for humans, with the provision of a funeral home to collectindividual cremation, restitution of centers and possibility of following the cremation on a screen. A formula displayed at 340 € for dogs and cats and €255 for NACs.
Remember
Like a “traditional” crematorium, Esthima is equipped with a garden of memorywhere masters can scatter the ashes of their late companion. “We also provide a guestbook,” emphasizes Ernest Costa. People can tell their story and thus somewhat ease their grief. »
Thousands of cremations per year
The Castelsarrasin animal crematorium carries out approximately 20,000 cremations per yearamong which 250 individual ceremonies. The director of the establishment specifies that if in fact, plural cremation is still the majority, individual cremation is experiencing strong growth. Which tends to prove that pet owners are more and more inclined to want to offer their pets a farewell worthy of the place they hold in their hearts.
Can you scatter your pet’s ashes anywhere?
If the Castelsarrasin crematorium does not offer a columbarium, it has a garden of remembrance where it is possible to scatter the ashes of animals. It is also permitted to disperse them at home, in a private space such as a garden or in nature. In the latter case, it is still not recommended to opt for a public park, a crop field or a frequently used path.
The team at the Castelsarrasin animal crematorium makes it a point of honor to listen, as Ernest Costa explains: “we do this job out of passion, putting forward real ethics and a lot of respect. »
