Amy Poehler Flight Drama: Tense Passenger Encounter Revealed

Golden Globe winner Amy Poehler recently shared a story about a heated argument she had with another passenger during a flight, and an etiquette expert weighed in on the risks travelers take in such small, confined spaces.

The actress and comedian spoke about the incident on a recent episode of your podcast, “Good Hang,” which featured you joined by your “Mean Girls” co-star Ana Gasteyer. Poehler’s “Good Hang” podcast recently won the first-ever Golden Globe for best podcast.

The confrontation occurred, according to Gasteyer, while the two were traveling together around the time they were filming the 2004 comedy, and he noted that Gasteyer’s daughter, Frances, who was a baby at the time, was also on the plane with them.

“You got into a fight with a guy,” Gasteyer recalled on the podcast.

“Little Frances was on the plane with us,” he added. “Do you remember that?”

Poehler responded, “And I still got into a fight with the guy carrying the baby?”

Gasteyer recalled that a fellow passenger in first class became upset by Poehler’s foul language and objected to her cursing loudly in front of the baby.

Poehler said the passenger asked him to be quiet so he could relax.

“My ‘Boston’ came to light, let’s put it that way,” she said of the situation.

Continuing his talk on the comedy podcast, Gasteyer described that moment as “the best thing I’ve ever seen.”

Diane Gottsman, a national etiquette expert based in Texas, told Fox News that situations like those described by Poehler and Gasteyer can be especially tense in confined public spaces, such as airplane cabins.

Although some passengers may be hesitant to directly confront a celebrity or prominent person, discomfort may continue to mount among those nearby, Gottsman said.

This makes it an even more sensitive topic, because we feel the need to protect the innocent.

Flight attendants have the authority to intervene if a passenger’s behavior becomes disruptive, regardless of the passenger’s condition, he added.

“When [una situación] affects children and pets, it becomes an even more delicate issue, because we feel the need to protect the innocent,” he said.
