The young French cyclist continues his remarkable season with another World Tour win.

That’s three. three successes in World Tour for the Varois Lenny Martinez, at only 21 years old.

After victories of stages this year in Paris-Nice and the Tour de Romandie, the climber of Montauroux won this Sunday, solo on the Plateau du Mont Cenis, during the 8th and last stage of the Critérium du Dauphiné.

Member of a breakaway in which very big names appeared (Mas, Kuus, Healy), the former runner of Groupama-FDJ managed to take the wheel of Enric Mas, then let go but he above all resisted the return of the duo Jonas Vingegaard and Tadej Pogacar, who left him. Martinez finished with 34 seconds ahead of the Danish.

“Yesterday (Saturday) I was entirely not well, the other days before not either, I did not expect much, but I took the start of the stage and I felt better. I tried to go to the breakaway, but it was only in the end that I thought it was possible to win. The end? I thought I was going to be caught up by them (Pogacar and Vinggegaard) catch up just before the line, I rolled up and it did it.

Martinez’s Unexpected Triumph

“I thought I was going to be caught up by them (Pogacar and Vinggegaard) catch up just before the line, I rolled up and it did it.”

The final stage of the Critérium du Dauphiné saw Lenny Martinez, a 21-year-old cyclist, achieve a remarkable solo victory on the Plateau du Mont Cenis. This win marks his third world Tour success, adding to his stage victories earlier in the year at Paris-Nice and the Tour de Romandie.
