Algeria-Morocco: Claims of Secret Tunnel | Bladna

The Algerian state television reported on Thursday evening of the discovery of an alleged “secret tunnel” that would run from Moroccan territory to the Bab El Assa region, in the border region of Tlemcen (West-Algeria).

According to Algerian De Public Omroep, this tunnel, dug at a “considerable depth underground”, would be used by “Networks of organized smuggling for the transport of drugs and toxic substances to Algeria”.

The same source added that “it is likely that it was recently used to implement large amounts of drugs”, whereby the substance was described as “one of the most dangerous used by smuggling networks to undermine the stability of the country”.

The television channel also drew a parallel with “the incident of the discovery, a few months ago, of a similar tunnel in the city of Ceuta“, a Spanish enclave in Morocco. According to the Algerian television, this tunnel is said to have been used by Moroccan-Spanish networks for the trade in people and forbidden goods “.
