Mexican Teachers End Airport Protest, demand Dialog with President

Thousands of teachers concluded a five-hour protest at Mexico City International Airport, demanding a meeting with President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo to discuss education reforms.


Thousands of teachers affiliated with the National Coordinator of Education Workers (CNTE) have ended their protest at terminals 1 and 2 of the Mexico City International Airport (AICM).The exhibition, which lasted over five hours, concluded with the teachers announcing their return to their plant in the capital zócalo via individual transport.

Before concluding the protest at Terminal 1, teachers from Section 22 of Oaxaca reiterated their demand for an immediate resumption of dialogue with President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo. They emphasized that their presence was not for leisure, stating, “we do not come for more vacations, but to repeal the law of which ISSSTE of 2007”.

Hundreds of teachers who had been demonstrating inside Terminal 2 also withdrew after several hours.

The teachers were seen carrying their benches, backpacks, and umbrellas as they headed back to the plant they have maintained since May 15, located in the historic center.

At the conclusion of the day’s activities,pedro Hernández,general secretary of Section 9,addressed the crowd in front of Puerta 8 of T2. He emphasized that the negotiating table with the president had not been established. “We did not break the dialogue,we are willing to build a solution with the president,” he stated.

Hernández also noted the scale of the mobilization, saying, “We were so many that we did not fit from Metro Pantitlán. The 12 doors of terminal 1 remained closed by our demonstration.”
