The International Institute for Sustainable Transition in Africa is organizing, from November 26 to 28, 2025, at the Semlalia Faculty of Sciences of Cadi Ayyad University – Marrakech, the second edition of its annual Africa Transition Forum (ATF 2025) event.

According to a press release, a copy of which reached lareleve.ma, this interdisciplinary meeting is dedicated to innovative solutions to the continent’s major challenges: demographic growth, rapid urbanization and the climate emergency. It will bring together a large community of committed actors: public decision-makers, researchers, practitioners, international institutions, private sector, NGOs, community actors and young talents, in order to reflect, exchange and build together sustainable transition strategies that are adapted to African realities.

Organized in partnership with several institutions, including the Faculty of Sciences Semlalia of Marrakech (FSSM) of Cadi Ayyad University, the Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the African Guarantee and Economic Cooperation Fund (FAGACE), the ATF 2025 aims to promote concrete initiatives, strengthen the capacities of the actors involved and promote the emergence of multi-sector partnerships. The objective is to accelerate the transition towards more inclusive, resilient and sustainable African territories.

The forum takes place in a particularly demanding context. Indeed, although the continent contributes less than 4% of global greenhouse gas emissions, it disproportionately suffers the effects of climate change which result in droughts, floods, land degradation and agricultural disruptions affecting the most vulnerable areas. Added to these environmental pressures is exceptional demographic growth, with more than 60% of young people under the age of 25 and accelerated urbanization which places significant demands on infrastructure, essential services and natural resources.

In this context, the work of ATF 2025 will focus on the major questions that structure urban transitions in Africa, in particular the management of demographic growth and sustainable cities, the energy transition, the responses to climate change, the needs for territorial resilience, governance and youth employment. Furthermore, the objectives of the ATF 2025 will particularly concern the technological innovations and financing mechanisms necessary to support large-scale sustainable transformations.

By bringing together diverse expertise and encouraging dialogue between sectors, the forum aims to produce strategic recommendations, stimulate the creation of operational partnerships and propose multi-sector roadmaps capable of accelerating the implementation of concrete solutions for sustainable transitions in Africa.

Based in Marrakech, the International Institute for Sustainable Transition in Africa (Africa Transition Institute), is a non-profit scientific organization committed to promoting an inclusive and sustainable transition on the African continent. Created by experts and development leaders, the Institute positions itself as a bridge between governments, the private sector and civil society.

Its action is structured around five strategic axes: sustainable energy and infrastructure, climate change, sustainable agriculture and food security, circular economy and responsible production, innovation, governance and socio-economic transformation. The Institute thus aims to make Africa a leading player in sustainability, by transforming the continent’s challenges into development engines.
