Sydney recruit Charlie Curnow says he had a great working relationship with Michael Voss, and will remember fondly the four years he played under the Carlton coach.

A day after his move to the Swans was finalised in the closing minutes of trade period, Curnow opened up on his departure from the Blues.

Curnow said that after nine years at Ikon Park, he needed a fresh start but had not spoken to other clubs until the end of the season.

He spoke highly of Voss, and refuted speculation his relationship with the Blues coach had become strained this year.

“Not at all,” Curnow said at his unveiling as Swan at Sydney’s Melbourne office in South Melbourne.

“In the end, it’s a pretty high-pressure environment.

“I think, obviously some things that maybe leaked out there that I would say aren’t true. It’s always a tough environment football and it’s going to be a lot of challenges that come with that. But for me and him, like I don’t see our relationship being affected at all by this.

“It’s just hard to have a few good conversations with him at the end of the season to if I want to get traded, it’s just you have to do that, you can’t just look and go behind his back and just start putting myself out there.

“I think we’re in a pretty healthy spot and as I said before, like I played some awesome footy under him and I thank him a lot for that.

“Like that was a tough part of my career coming over a knee injury and then trying to play. He dealt with that fantastically.”

Curnow said he would contact Voss again to thank him.

“I played some great footy under Vossy, we had a great relationship,” Curnow said.

“I owe him a lot, I came out of an injury and was able to play three years and four in a row beneath him and play good footy.

“That’s going to be some of my best memories when I look back and have finished footy, playing underneath him.”
